Winter Vacation Day 13: 1/9/13

Sweater: J Crew Merino Stripe Sweater, sz. XS
Pants: random ponte knit pants from TJMaxx
Boots: Frye Melissa Button
Bag: LV Evora

This sweater was one of the very few things I ended up buying from the J Crew retail store on my visit there. I like it. A lot. And it surprises me, because I rarely buy J Crew knits anymore because they never pass my quality criteria. Not that I'm a sweater snob or something, but for what J Crew charges I better be buying the Golden Fleece, you know? If I pay $20 for a sweater I'm ok with it pilling, being made of mostly acrylic,  or getting a hole after 5 washes. If I pay $100, the quality better reflect, and for the most part I don't think it does with J Crew. I've kind of moved on to buying knits from Boden and regular Lands End instead.

Back to this sweater, it's really cute. I love me a turtleneck and I love me a stripe, so I figured it was worth trying on. Bonus for being 100% merino. That's about the only knit material I can trust or feel safe with from J Crew anymore. The sweater also has these darling elbow patches too.  Too bad they hit about 2 inches above where my elbows are, says Egyptomaniac of the freakishly long arms.

Oh and normally I wouldn't wear this short of a top with a legging-ish pant (I tend to like my rear covered when pants are so clingy) but we were heading over to partake in the Belagio buffet, and I needed me some stretchy pants for the event! They worked wonderfully, btw.

  1. I haven't had time to read blogs for a few months- work, work, work. So nice to see all of your perfectly put together outfits and travel pictures. I love the critter sweaters. Great new bag! Classic, yet a little unusual. I hate nail biting treacherous journeys up mountains. I have had a few in the Black Hills, SD and Mt Washington , NH. I give you credit for staying at the top. I would spend my whole time worrying about getting back down!

    1. Hi Knit Yarns! You(and your blog) been missed! Maybe those treacherous drives make the end goal more worthwhile? Maybe like after going though so much I'm not going to let anything stop me from enjoying!

  2. I have the same issue with elbow patches - ha! The Bellagio breakfast buffet is always a must do when we're in Vegas. It's our hotel of choice, so it's hard to pass ny it without going in!

    1. Oh, good--then it's not just me! Maybe we both just have super long arms or something! The Bellagio is the one hotel we haven't stayed at yet, and yet it's always my favorite buffet to eat at--better than even the Wynn or Encore I think!

  3. I'm sorry you've had so many negative experiences with JCrew. It seems that most of the posts I've read from you recently reflect a negative experience. I've bought many articles from them too and never had the same amount of negativity in my experiences - have you tried contacting customer service?

    1. "Anon"-I am sorry too! I really love J Crew and used to shop there almost exclusively. Maybe I'm just buying the wrong things (clearly different than your experiences) but it seems like almost everything I've bought in the past 2 years has had or develops issues.....holes, severe pilling, wrong orders, dirty/used clothes, things falling apart after one wash, major sizing issues, bad fabrics..... and that's not the way it used to be when I shopped at J Crew in years past. And yes, I've contacted CS. Many times. I've even contacted Mickey Drexler a time or two when customer service failed to fix things. Once I got to Mr. Drexler the issues always got solved, but I shouldn't have to go to the CEO to get basic, polite customer service. I used to have such faith in the brand and I sincerely hope that they can get back on track with quality because they were once the star of my wardrobe.
