OOTD: 3/11/12 -New Glasses!

Sweater: J Crew Jackie, sz. small
Tee: F 21, sz. med
Shorts: J Crew 7" chino shorts, sz. 2
Shoes: Converse Jack Purcell
Necklace: F 21
New Glasses!: Michael Kors

So here is my first pair of new glasses! I'm afraid Jenna Lyons must have somehow subliminally influenced me :P Clearly, these frames are much larger than anything I've ever owned before. On the practical side, the viewing area is much larger making it easier for me to see. And on the impractical side, I kind of love that they're nerdy chic. Close up, they're actually two-tone. The top half is navy blue, blending into tortoise on the bottom half. When I saw they had a pair of navy frames available, I jumped all over that. Navy is one of my very favorite colors.

I know, I know. Dorky. And very trendy. But I have a feeling these type of frame is going to be around for awhile. I thought they were kind of perfect for this dorky college prof, at least. And at least they're not as big as that honkin' pair Ms. Lyons wears. And my last justification is that this is my "get one free" fun pair. The other pair of glasses that I picked out is a bit more serious.

And on to the outfit. I'm breaking out shorts for the very first time this year! Technically, temperature wise I could have been wearing them for a while now, but I always try to hold off at least until Spring break. Until then, I'm just not in the mood. The previous weekend I spent "summer-izing" my closet (I've actually been doing it in slow steps for a few weekends now, as it's quite the process.) This time, I spent a few hours packing up my shelves of corduroys and trading them out for my shelves of shorts.

It's funny..... growing up in Minnesota, I always had far more winter clothes-- like cords, boots, and sweaters, --than summer shorts and tanks. And now that I've moved down to deep South Texas, things have completely changed. If you were to look at my closet now, 3/4ths of it is spring/summer items and only 1/4th of it could be designated as "winter." That's cool with me though. I choose to move someplace warm for a reason. I love being able shorts, sandals and skirts with no tights (tights actually skeeve me out a bit) year round. Socks are something I only wear when exercising, and scarves are a fashion accessory, not a necessity.

And speaking of shorts, I was delighted to discover that I had tucked away several NWT, end-of-season clearance shorts from J Crew in my bins of summer clothes. I love when that happens! I had completely forgotten buying up a ton of shorts from J Crew at the end of summer last year. This neon pink pair was one of them. Yay for unexpected surprises!

  1. Love the glasses on you!! And love that you're wearing that F21 necklace too, heehee. I did the exact same thing -- put away a bunch of super clearance shorts. I just found them doing some change-out, including those same pink ones. Love!

  3. I love this whole outfit. And that necklace is super cute! I'm in the northeast, so while we had a "mild" winter and a very warm March, April has been cold, so I'm still wearing the tights. I actually really like tights; they're way more comfortable for me than pants sometimes. I just hate for my legs/feet to be cold. S'posed to warm up this weekend so I can't wait to break out the shorts. Wish I had a cute pair like yours!

    1. Thanks! I remeber living in Minnesota, our rule was anything above 65* qualified as "shorts weather". Now I would freeze if I wore shorts in those temps!
